Abstract

Background. The post-Soviet period is characterized by the growth of religious consciousness, the increasing influence of religion (particularly the Russian Orthodox Church) on the socio-political and socio-economic processes in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation. In this regard, relevant is the study of various forms and methods of interaction in the regions between the Orthodox Church and the authorities, contributing ultimately to the formation of the Russian identity. The aim of this work is to analyse the features of educational and outreach activities of the ROC in territory Mordovia Republic in the early 1990s–2010s.
Materials and methods. Implementation of research tasks was achieved through the study of periodicals, Internet sources and research. The main research method, which formed the basis of this article was a comparative-historical, which allowed to analyze the state of educational and cultural activities of the Russian Orthodox Church on the territory of Mordovia.
Results. The basic stages of cultural and educational work of the Orthodox Church in Mordovia in the context of the ROC partnership with the regional authorities and the influence of Orthodox Christianity on the modern Russian identity. This fact is instrumental in the preservation of ethno-political and confessional stability of Mordovia, its quite effective socio-economic and political development, the growth of authority among the other subjects of the Russian Federation.
Conclusions. In Mordovia Saransk and Mordovian diocese, transformed subsequently in the Archdiocese, has created quite a developed system of religious education, active in cultural and educational activities by cooperating with educational institutions of the Republic. All this, of course, has a positive impact on the spiritual consolidation of the regional society in terms of external calls.
